Sarah Roberts - Profile Sarah studied Fine Art at Reading and Hull and now lives and works in Cambridge. Her paintings grew from drawings of microscopic pond-life made for an urban ecology project. Over time, they have gathered many other influences, but delight at encountering other strange living things remains a constant source of motivation. Strong colour and definite forms make the work theatrical and vibrant, and the use of crisp, slightly wavbering edges give an idea of constant gentle movement. Sarah is interested in the particular qualities of different pigments and uses areas of flat colour contrasting with layers of thin oil glazes to achieve a feeling of substance, depth and density.
